Born in Granada, Spain in 1976, Dr. Capitán completed his bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Granada in the year 2000. After five years as a resident intern at the Virgen de las Nieves Hospital in Granada capital, he achieved the title of Specialist, by means of the MIR System, in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
He then continued his education in Tissue Engineering, obtaining his doctorate at the University of Granada, cum laude, in 2006. A year later he obtained the title of Master of Tissue Engineering from the University of Granada (2007), specialising in Ortognathic and Craniofacial Surgery.
Dr. Capitán has been awarded hospital residencies on scholarship from the Institute of Maxillofacial Surgery and Implantology at the Teknon Clinic of Barcelona with Dr. Hernandez Alfaro, as well as in the Craniofacial Surgery and Dentofacial Deformities Units of Morriston University Hospital (Wales, U.K.), along with Professor Adrian Sugar.
It is in the U.K. where he took on the role as faculty specialist for the first time, later returning to his current post at the University Hospital Virgen de las Nieves in Granada. As the author of diverse national and international scientific articles, Dr. Capitán has given numerous courses on his specialty, placing special emphasis on reconstructive techniques utilising micro-vascular tissue auto-transplants.
Member of the organisation AO International (Foundation AO-ASIF, Davos-Switzerland) for the study of osteosynthesis. Also a member of the Spanish Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery as well as the European Society of Craneo-maxillofacial Surgery.
