The first step is to visit us for an examination and to discuss your individual solution options.		This is the step wherein we will place the dental implants in your jaw.		The next day the bridges are screwed in place over the dental implants.		After 4 months the temporary bridge is replaced by a final bridge.

The problem: not enough bone

Many patients nowadays are told that dental implants in their upper jaw are not possible because of a lack of bone mass. This condition is common in patients that have been wearing a dental prosthesis for many years or because of severe periodontal disease.  Before the use of zygomatic implants a bone graft was the only solution. Bone grafts taken from chin, hip, tibia, or even the cranium often have multiple complications with unpredictable results and low success rates. Bone graft procedure also takes a very long treatment time (from 6 months to one year).

The solution: zygomatic implants

Nowadays bonegrafting can be avoided in nearly 100% of cases by using zygomatic implants. These zygomatic implants, longer than normal implants, are anchored to the inside of the zygomatic bone (cheek bone). The zygoma is a good quality bone with sufficient volume in all patients, allowing it to tolerate the forces of chewing when the zygomatic implants are connected to a fixed dental prosthetic.

Zygomatic implants invented in Sweden

The technique if zygomatic implants really is not that new, having been developed over the last twenty years. In the 1990s, Professor P.I. Branemark of Sweden started using the bone that forms the cheek as a point to which zygomatic dental implants could be anchored. Branemark´s innovative idea revolutionized conventional treatments. The results were so positive that, after 10 years of research, the first specialized zygomatic implants were commercialized and the spread of the technique began. In the year 2003-2004, documentation and data were published showing success rates with zygomatic implants close to 100% and minimum complications.

Taking care of your oral hygiene after zygomatic implants

Having a fixed bridge on zygomatic implants still means that you need to maintain proper oral hygiene.  Along with brushing, most patients use a Water-Pik for routine cleaning around the implants and bridge.  Half yearly visits to your dentist for a thorough dental cleaning is also recommended
